Seeing yourself with the blinders off.

As we embark on this new decade it's only right that my first post be about self-reflection. Taking a moment and really looking at yourself through the lens of Christ and not this world is important. I would like to do an experiment with you all. I want you to take some time out and do the exercise, then give me your feed back. A friend of mine shared this with me, and I thought it would be a great way to put things into perspective.
First part: Write a list of 50 things "YOU are." (take your time with this one)
I'll help you with the first one.
1) You are Chosen- "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." -1 Peter 2:9
Second part: Write 150 "I want statements", We have not because we ask not.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7
I'll share one of my wants- "God I want to live to see my children graduate from College and become successful adults."
See it doesn't have to be hard. Just think about what you want God to do in your life.
Third part: Ask 10 people closest to you to describe you in 3 words. This will either show you have amazing people in your circle, or you need to readjust some friendships. I will speak on this in a later blog post.
Last part: Compare your list of "You are's" to the 3 words from your 10 friends.
This part is saved to the end because it's important that you see who you are from Gods view and understand that you are His creation and perfect in His sight. Pastor Steven Furtick put it this way, "Self awareness is the beginning of gratitude." After you have that understanding it's good to know you have amazing people in your corner. " A sweet friendship refreshes the soul" Proverbs 27:9 There will be days where you lose focus and having quality friends in your circle can help you put everything back into perspective.
The purpose of this exercise is to help myself as well as my loyal readers stop allowing the world to define what God created. This year don't let this world tell you who you are. Stand up and tell it "Whose you are."
Blessings
