I know you are wondering what a “mommy timeout” is right. As a parent, I take several cues from my children. For an example when one of my children is acting out I quickly look at myself. What am I doing? Have I been in my word? Have I been praying like I should? Where has my focus been? Is it on social media, a television show, or chatting away on the phone?
Children do what we do, more than what we say. Therefore, when I notice things getting out of hand within my home I am quick to examine myself first. I realized when I am on track with God my children are on track with me. No, I am not saying every day is rainbows but when I am in tune with God, I am able to handle everything the world throws at me.
If you find yourself flipping out and yelling at your children or love ones more than usual, take a "mommy timeout" and refocus. I promise you it makes a big difference. As a single parent of four, you can imagine how things could be, but with God at the center of it, there is always peace within the storm.
Ways to take a mommy timeout
* Wake up earlier than everyone in your house and spend time in your word and prayer.
* Find a song that uplifts you and set it as your alarm on your phone to wake you in the morning. An awesome way to begin your day with a "palms up mentality" (My favorite is Holy Ground by Passion feat. Melodie Malone) this sets the whole tone of your day.
* Subscribe to a podcast (my favorites, Elevation Church Pastor Steven Furtick, the Potters House Bishop T.D. Jakes, Transformation Church Pastor Michael Todd) If you do not have podcast download the church app of the above pastors.
I hope you find peace within your week.
Blessings,
Ms. K
